Any development should consider gloval (lat-lon) datasets as well.
The issues here are (1) distance function is different and (2)
polygons can circle the poles.

Can someone elaborate on this (perhaps I'm not as familiar with
lat-long datasets as I should be)?
BTW, it is working nicely for a 100 point x-y site file that I'm
using. I have a few more bells and whistles to add, but I'll let
folks know when I have something available for testing.
