Hi all. I've just resubscribed to this list after a LONG absence. I'm
not even sure if this list still has any activity. What I wanted to ask
about is available data for the US in a format GRASS can read. In
particular, is thre and easy to get at source of polygons for all the
counties (parishes in La.) in the US? Thanks.

I'd recommend using the TIGER/Line data from the Bureau of the Census.
The applicable GRASS commands include v.in.tig.basic, v.in.tig.lndmk, and
m.in.stf1.tape (which is used to extract just those records that you
desire). I believe that there is a short tutorial for these commands on
the GRASS ftp site.
