Using GRASS commands form unix prompt

Hello all,
Is there a way of setting up GRASS so that I can use the GRASS commands directly
from
the UNIX prompt. I faintly recall that there was some suggestion for doing this
sometime
on this ML but I am unable to locate the answer now.

Thanks in advance

Why can't you use the standard grass commnad line interface (running
grass4.2.1)? When you run this command it provides you with a unix shell
capable of running any unix command. The only difference between this shell and
a regular unix shell is that there are GRASS environment variables set that
allow the grass commands to run.

Is there another problem you are having?

Hi,
I would like to call some GRASS programs (without starting the GRASS Shell)
from other programs that I am writing in FORTRAN.
I recall that there were some previous mention about doing this be cannot
locate the info in the ML archives.

Thanks
