Wish list-d.mon

It would be useful to be able to specify a particular size for the
X monitor window started with d.mon. This would make it possible to
create a window within which the maps from a particular location would
fit exactly. As it is one can kludge this by using d.mon -D, then resizing
until the height and width are approximately right, but this is slow. This
would also be a useful feature for composing complex frames that will fit
exactly on a page when printed via the d.mon CELL driver.

what about a shell script that uses g.region to set
XDRIVER_HEIGHT and XDRIVER_WIDTH and then starts a monitor?

also, shouldn't this info be included in the man page for d.mon?

I am new to GRASS (I just got 4.1 off the internet) and would like to know where I can get an faq list (I couldn't locate one on moon). The 4.1 manual doesn't come close to answering my questions. For example, I can't seem to set up my monitor using xgrass. Whenever I set the monitor to a divice it says "can't unlock file". After I choose the unlock option I still get the same error message. Also when I try to bring up the command line window, it comes up for about a second and then disappears.

Would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks.
