ActivityPub integration

Now we just need someone else on fosstodon to test to see if the issue is with fosstodon or something on @rnanclares end.

I am at Jody Garnett (@jodygarnett@fosstodon.org) - Fosstodon

I tried putting in fosstodon.org but since the user name on this site “jive” and the one on fosstodon “jodygarnett” do not match I am not sure if I expect it to work?

It doesn’t care about the username.

The way it works, you put in the domain fosstodon.org. You will then see an authorize button. It will redirect you to fosstodon, if you are logged in, you can then click follow, if you are not you will be taken to the fosstodon.org login screen to follow.

Huh, that did not work for me. I was using Firefox and not logged in to fosstodon at the time.

It might be an issue with fosstodon.org. @rnanclares was also having issue. People on mapstodon.space (including me) were successful.

@jive But you are not missing much yet. Even with being able to authorize, we are still not seeing messages so I think we still need to make some configuration changes.

@jive are you still having problems? FWIW I was able to subscribe to this category from my mapstodon account. Try putting in general@discourse.osgeo.org in your mastodon interface to see if you see it and subscribe.

I am a bit unclear what authorizing your mastodon does though, cause I only see my robe@discourse.osgeo.org on these posts

I think I figured out what authorizing does now. I think authorizing prevents discourse from creating a ghost account for your discourse account if it replies to something. Like I think @ivansanchez had a ghost account which I merged into his. Will see if another ghost gets created.

I just tried now, while signed in to fosstodon.org on the browser and it came back with:
Client authentication failed due to unknown client, no client authentication included, or unsupported authentication method.

Did you get as far as doing Authorize for fosstodon.org? or did it fail even before that step?

It made it as far as fosstodon.org this time. I was already logged in to fosstodon.org.

The error message was on the fosstodon.org website.

So maybe it’s something about fosstodon.org not allowing it. I don’t think anyone on fosstodon has successfully subscribed.

That’s the same error message I got so it must be a Fosstodon issue.

Are you able to subscribe though? I mean from fosstodon putting in general@discourse.osgeo.org in search and subscribing.

Maybe it’s some sort of security concern that fosstodon doesn’t authorize linking identities

Done. Still getting the error. I should reach out to the admins of Fosstodon see if there’s something they can do.
