Name: Anshika Yadav

Tell us about yourself: I’m a 2nd year BTech student in Computer Science and Engineering. I’ve worked on a few team-based problem-solving projects, including a national-level hackathon, which sparked my interest in building practical software solutions. I’m interested in how software systems, data, and open-source tools come together to solve real-world problems, and recently I’ve been exploring the geospatial domain to understand its applications better.

Any OSGeo projects and communities you are involved in:

I’m new to the OSGeo ecosystem and open-source geospatial communities, and this is my first step toward contributing here. At the moment, I’m focusing on understanding the projects, workflows, and how the community collaborates.

What do you want to learn / contribute?

With a background in computer science, I’m particularly interested in understanding how geospatial software systems are architected, maintained, and scaled in open-source environments. Building on my initial exposure to tools like QGIS, I would like to start contributing through tasks such as improving documentation, fixing small bugs, or assisting with tooling and automation, and gradually work toward deeper technical contributions as I become more familiar with the codebase and workflows.

Tech Stack at present:

  • Programming Languages: Python, C++, JavaScript

  • Web Technologies: HTML, CSS, basic React

  • Geospatial Tools: QGIS

  • Version Control: Git, GitHub

I’m continuously learning and open to picking up new tools and technologies as needed for contributing effectively.

Anshika,

Great to meet you. I’m on the PostGIS core development team. As far as QGIS goes, probably a good start is to explore the QGIS forums on this site here - QGIS - OSGeo Discourse and the QGIS development list - QGIS-Developer Info Page

We’ve also got a matrix server that many projects are on - A good start is the general channel which many project leaders are on and can further guide you - https://matrix.to/#/#general:osgeo.org
