Arth Patel Introduction

Hello everyone,

I’m Arth Patel, an undergraduate student pursuing a B.Tech in Information Technology at IIT Bakrol (GCET), India. I’m interested in contributing to OSGeo projects as part of building a strong foundation in open-source development and preparing for GSoC 2026.

My background is primarily in full-stack development, with additional experience in AI/ML and data analysis. I’m comfortable working with Python, C/C++, JavaScript/TypeScript, and have experience building applications using frameworks like React, Node.js, Django, Flask, and FastAPI. I’ve also worked with PostgreSQL/MySQL, REST APIs, and standard open-source tooling such as Git, Linux, and Docker.

On the AI/ML side, I’ve used libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, NumPy, Pandas, and OpenCV, mainly for experimentation and applied projects. I’m now looking to apply my skills in a more structured, real-world open-source environment.

I’m particularly interested in:

  • Beginner-friendly OSGeo projects

  • Documentation or code contributions where I can learn project workflows

  • Guidance on how to start contributing effectively within the OSGeo ecosystem

Any pointers to contributor guides, suitable first issues, or relevant projects would be greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to learning from the community and contributing.

Regards,
Arth Patel

Welcome Arth,

There are a number of projects under OSGeo umbrella that accept GSOC students.

The ones I’m most familiar with are pgrouting and GRASS.

Feel free to introduce yourself at the above and make sure to explore other GSOC introductions there as replies to that have a number of steps you can follow to get started.

Also make sure to join and review GSOC category. There is where you will be expected to post GSOC status reports if you get accepted by OSGeo.
