AW: [Geoserver-users] Silent mode for GeoServer on a Windows 2003 Server Virtual Machine

Dear chris,

Your hint just works perfect, I downloaded http://jira.codehaus.org/secure/attachment/15989/srv_wrapper.zip, unpacked it under the bin directory of my GeoServer installation, and followed the contained readme.txt for installation. GeoServer now autostarts as background service at server reboot.

Very recommendable, your should include this in the upcomming release! many thanx,
bernd

There's code in an issue that will run it as a windows service.
http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-370 If you have success with this let us know and we can include it in the next release.

best regards,

Chris

Dear list-subscribers,

Same question as before, but now for Windows 2003 Server (instead of
Solaris):

Running GeoServer v 1.3.0 on a Win 2003 Server Virtual Machine, the
server process is associated with a specific remotedesktop window,
whichin which the processes are worked up and system and error
messages are displayed.

Closing this specific remotedesktop window (when logging out) will
terminate the processing and shutdown the GeoServer.
Is there a way to have GeoServer run silently 'in the background' on a
Windows server without any need to be logged in via Remotedesktop all
the time. How will I have to initiate such a silent background mode
processing of GeoServer? Is there any documentation for this?

Many thanks for your help and best regards, bd
