If you have a binary raster file, I think you can put it in the subdirectory
cell, then create an ascii cell header file and put it in the correct
subdirectory (cellhd)...and it will display...IF the raster file is in
an acceptable format.-N.
Just an additional note -- "acceptable" really means just a rectangular
matrix so GRASS will treat the binary file as an uncompressed raster.
I frequently do this to exchange files between GRASS and PhotoShop on
a Mac.
