Name: Brendan O’Connor
Tell us about yourself: I am a PhD student in the field of Community Psychology at UNC Charlotte, in North Carolina. Comm. psych is an interdisciplinary field, so I’m also working towards a graduate certificate in GIS from UNCC at the same time. I’ve been learning ArcGIS and some open source tools with python and R, but haven’t gotten the chance to learn much of any QGIS yet, so I am super-interested.
Any OSGeo projects and communities you are involved in: None as of now, but I could be open to depending!
What do you want to learn / contribute? I’d like to learn the essential goals of QGIS, how I might use it and for what purposes, and how others are using it. I would also like to continue to learn about the governance structure of QGIS, as I’ve been deeply involved in cooperative governance structures, and appreciate that what I’ve seen so far seems very co-op-like.
Do you need an OSGeo account? I think so, but maybe someone can explain what OSGeo accounts are used for? I also don’t know what the below bullet points are for, but I like the sound of them, so I left them:
- GeoForAll Participation
- Become a google summer of code participant
