Contributing to GN4

Hi all :waving_hand:

I hope you had a nice Christmas break :christmas_tree:

I would be interested in contributing to GeoNetwork 4 again (like I have in the past), and I was wondering if there is currently a need for contributions to GeoNetwork 4.2, in particular, which would be quite key for Astun’s customers, as that’s what we’re currently running on (at least until 4.4 is declared the stable version and we upgrade our instances).

I need to run this past my employer, so I am trying to understand if this would be welcomed and trying to figure out the time commitment I could make. There used to be a GN4 meeting taking place every other month or so. Is that still happening, and would I be welcomed/needed to join it if I can come back to making more regular contributions?

All the best,

Elena

Hello @elenarobu and welcome to the user channel.

There is need for GN4 maintenance, we do expect 4.2.x series to end in the coming months as 4.4.x takes over as the stable series. If you are in position to make releases for your customers you can continue to make 4.2.x releases as required of course

There is alternating GN4 / GN5 meetings every two weeks, that would be the best place to introduce yourself and get started.

aside: One thing to plan for in the year ahead is increased security vulnerability reporting requirements for organizations operating in the EU marketplace. This will place some burden all open source projects including GeoNetwork. It would be a wise use of your time to volunteer to review security reports and obtain the required level of trust ahead of September 2026 CRA requirement.

See developer roles for information.

Hi @jive :waving_hand:

Thank you for your reply!

We wouldn’t be releasing our own 4.2.x, I think we’d be looking to upgrade to 4.4.x when it’s declared stable

I’ll work out my time availability, and I’ll be in touch when I am ready to join you guys for a meeting  Looking forward to doing my bit again

Thanks again,

Elena
