David Edwards

Name: David Edwards
Tell us about yourself: I am a consulting forester in the North Puget Sound region of Washington State. I’ve been using QGIS since 2019, but I’ve only recently become aware of the larger OSGeo ecosystem thanks to Cascadia Users of Geospatial Open Source (CUGOS). I’ve been passionate about the open-source community since I installed my first Linux distro 18 years ago and I’m now using & creating geospatial data in my everyday work. I’m a career instructor pilot and courseware designer, and I’m interested in drone applications, especially for forestry.

Any OSGeo projects and communities you are involved in: None yet, but I’m interested.

What do you want to learn / contribute? I like everything I see here, and I want to learn as much as possible. I am not associated with a university or land-use agency, but I hope to contribute to the body of research around forestry and natural resources. I’m also interested in eLearning authoring and course deployment.

Do you need an OSGeo account? Not yet, but hopefully later.

Welcome David,

When you say GGIS? Is that QGIS or some other piece of software.

Take a look at QGIS US - OSGeo Discourse - it’s mostly english speaking QGIS users on there, but they use much of the OSGeo stack as well and many are passionate about instructing on FOSS GIS tools, so may be able to guide you in your exploration.

Hi robe,

Oh no! A typo in my introductory post! I’m so embarrassed…I normally take pride in my attention to detail.

Yes, I meant QGIS. Thanks for the redirect to QGIS US - OSGeo Discourse. I’ll check it out!

David
