I would like to propose for the end the life of GeoNetwork 4.2 at the end of December 2026.
GeoNetwork 4.2 has been maintained since 2022. Users are encouraged to upgrade to version 4.4.
Until December 2026, only bug/security fixes will be merged, there will be no new features.

Will there be an end-of-life notice issued at any point? And has 4.4 been declared stable now?
I know there was talk at the last user meeting about 4.4 taking over, but nothing was concrete at that point.

I think this email discussion is the part that would make it official 
I think we have been a bit slow, GeoNetwork 4.4 is presently acting as stable with 4.2 in maintenance mode. It is just that GeoNetwork 5 is under development so there is no “latest” folks are in position to run.

I have not head much on this thread, and during the CVE disclosure updated the release history to indicate 4.4 is stable, 4.2 is maintenance (and nearing end-of-life):
