Hi Francois
Thanks for this. I have done some tests, here are my comments:
- Content statistics it’s a bit slow to load, but probably can’t be done much there.
The default dashboard contains quite a lot of elements. We’re now thinking of splitting them in different topics - eg. General overview, Validation, INSPIRE, Technical details, Contacts, …
- I saw the dashboards can be exported to csv, is there any option to create a pdf with all the dashboards? Only if it’s a feature available in Kibana, not asking to implement it.
There is some tools related to kibana for that, but not opensource I think.
- In the search statistics when filtering by value, the top panels get empty values and total of requests are 0. Should be like this?
For now, it reproduces the old search stats page where there was no links between search requests and quey param info. This also something to improve on building more intelligent dashboards.
Thanks for the feedback.
Francois

Jose García

Hi,
If there is some interest on testing, a demo is available here http://apps.titellus.net/geonetwork with 2 catalogs harvested (Sextant & Metawal).

Dear all, any other PSC members (or users) opinion on this?
Thanks.

Hi,
2017-06-15 9:24 GMT+02:00 María Arias de Reyna <delawen@anonymised.com>:
Hi,
Do we have a documentation on Kibana and how to extend it? Do we have a documentation on how to do queries in Elastic Search? I cannot find it on the PR.
There is lots of videos on how to use Kibana (added to the PR description). Query syntax in Kibana is Lucene syntax so similar to what we are currently using. We are also doing training with GeoNetwork users (in 2 different projects) - so the current default dashboards will be improved by end-users. At some point we may even be able to share dashboards made by all users …
I also cannot see any testing on the commits. Is there any current tests that cover it? There is no testing on statistics? Should we improve that?
Not expert on this, but for testing this part of the app, it would require to start the application and load some records and run the tests. We had in the past some integration tests which were dropped at some point. Maybe the work made on NGR & cucumber could help us to make those kind of testing if added to GN ?
Also, healthchecks added yesterday on those 2 apps that some parts of the application depends on (see https://github.com/geonetwork/core-geonetwork/pull/2024).
Cheers.
Francois

Hi Francois
I have added some comments to the PR, please check to review them and apply if consider them useful.
PR updated.
I have also a question about the ES integration, will be embedded in the GeoNetwork war or installer? Or otherwise there’s some documentation available so users can setup ES and apply the required configuration easily?
This page of the documentation (http://geonetwork-opensource.org/manuals/trunk/eng/users/maintainer-guide/installing/installing-solr.html#installing-solr ) is ready to be updated.
We can’t embed elasticsearch in a WAR.
Cheers.
Francois
If previous responses are yes, +1 for me, looks a useful feature to remove this stuff from the database, that is a bottleneck.

Dear PSC,
here is a proposal to use elasticsearch & kibana for dashboards on catalog content and search statistics available on the admin page. This fix a number of issues related to this part of the application when dealing with catalogue with lot of records or long search history and is much more flexible.
See proposal https://github.com/geonetwork/core-geonetwork/wiki/DashboardUsingES and see PR for details:
Looking forward to your vote.
