[GeoNetwork-devel] Cleanup of open Issues in geonetwork-core

Hi all,

As discussed during the last PSC meeting, I have started a cleanup of Issues to work towards a more manageable number of open Issues. For this, a first rough cleanup has been done. This has resulted in old issues to be labelled Stale and marked Closed if they had little to no activity. The more recent the issue, more precautions have been taken. A description of criteria I used can be found below. We now have ~338 open issues (down from over 1100). Please take some time to review issues that have been labelled Stale, but are still open. They may be closed, but require the assignee or the people involved in a discussion to take that decision.

1- Issues that had their last activity before 1 March 2021 have been labelled as Stale

2- Issues that had 3 or less comments and are older than 01-03-2021 have also been marked Closed

3- Issues that had no assignee and match the previous criteria have been marked Closed

4- Issues older than 1 year that had 3 or less comments and no assignee have been labelled Stale

5- Issues older than 1 year that had 1 or no comments and no assignee have also been marked Closed

Of course you can re-open issues that still require attention. Please comment on the issue and assign it to yourself or someone you have agreed with to take on the issue. If you can, also assign a Milestone to the Issue. You can remove the Stale label if it should remain active.

In our next PSC meeting I would like to agree on an automated process of closing inactive Issues to prevent an ever increasing list of Stale Issues. If I understood well, the practice in the GeoServer community is to automatically close an Issue after 6 months of inactivity. I would like us to agree on a similar approach.

Let me know if you have any questions, need for a correction et cetera.

Cheers,

Jeroen
