I would like to use GeoNetwork via CSW. Is there any Java API available which handles the client site (building the requests and more importing parsing the responses into an object?) Maybe in other languages...

when you install GeoNetwork you have the option to install a ‘CSW client’. This is a Swing application that allows you to build and submit CSW requests, and see the responses. The responses are not built into objects, though.
