[GeoNetwork-devel] discrepancy between number of users shown in users and groups, and number shown in database

Hi All,

I’ve spotted some discrepancies between what’s shown in various parts of the GeoNetwork interface around numbers of records. I’d just like to understand what’s going on before I report it as a bug, since I can see it in both 3.12 and 4.2.x but it’s not always consistent.

If I’m logged in as Admin, and I go to my own account in admin console → users and groups then I see (for example) 114 records allegedly owned by me. However, if I go to the contribute panel and do a search but choose “only my records” and no other parameters, I see a different number of records.

Should both of these processes return the same numbers, and if not, why not? I have resorted to getting a count from the back end database for now but this is causing some confusion for other users.

Thanks

Jo

Hi Jo

I’ve tried in 3.12 with admin user:

  1. In the users and groups, it’s filtered by the user owner _owner: 1, but also is retrieving all types of metadata, including subtemplates: template: y or n or s or t

  2. In the editor board, it’s filtered by the user owner _owner: 1, but discards the subtemplates: _isTemplate: y or n (also the field name is different, the one used in 1. doesn’t seem correct)

Not sure if it’s the same case in GeoNetwork 4.x, but I think the template filter should be unified, not very clear why retrieving the subtemplates in 1. Also in that option, at least in GeoNetwork 3.12, the metadata is not clickable, being a bit useless in my opinion.

Hi Jo and Jose, In the admin, it may make sense to list all types of records as when deleting a user there is a check in the database if there are any records associated with the user. So it makes it easier to see which records need an ownership transfer or removal before removing the user.

Cheers.
Francois

Hi Francois and Jose,

Thanks- this helps. Can I confirm also that records where there are indexing errors also won’t get shown in the totals in the UI (in the admin section)? We were also seeing a discrepancy between the records shown for a specific user in the UI and the records they own as shown in the database, and I think that would explain it.

Thanks again

Jo
