I would like to begin introducing our present situation: We’ve finalized a first version of our Marcoast (Marine & Coastal Environmental Information Services) Service Portal project (more info on www.gmes-marcoast.com) which is supported on GeoNetwork project. The development of this version of Marcoast started and finalized with the version 2.0.2 of GeoNetwork project and we can assert that the use of your software has been very useful. We are very thankful for this support.
Right now, we face up to the new phase of Marcoast Service Portal and we will be very pleased to carry on with the Geonetwork project collaboration. However we foresee improvements which the current releases of GeoNetwork doesn’t have for the new Marcoast. Thus, we are very interested in the planning of the new GeoNetwork version 3.0. At this moment, we are especially interested in the CMS. We are investigating about this and once again GeoNetwork project is a great source of information. The last news we read in roadmap was that GeoNetwork 3.0 would provide a CMS portlet compliant solution which is interesting. But it seems there is no news about this since Jeroen’s mail about “GeoNetwork 2.1 and 3.0 planning” sent on January the 19th. Has anyone made any advance concerning this? Is finally Liferay the portal solution? Or is this discussion still opened?
Apart from Liferay, Jboss Portal or any other portal solution, we are very interested in the concept to split Geonetwork in client and server sides, and what is more about having web services on the server side. Thus, correct me if we’re wrong but we think the bet is some technology like XForms, so whereabouts is Jeeves in all of this? Is it foreseen to keep it?
