Hi
+1 for me.
Regards,
Jose García
Hi All,
I have read the proposal, but don’t really understand the detail- are there any implications for how it would work for people like myself who don’t really understand the mechanisms of building from source, but can follow instructions enough to build geonetwork locally to test minor changes (not java, mainly schemas, css, html, js etc)? The proposal seems to suggest that it will build more quickly, but are there changes to the way we actually do a build?
Thanks
Jo

Hi Jo
This should not affect the way to build GeoNetwork from sources.
Publishing the current artifacts in a public repository, will allow to develop some features as isolated projects referencing these artifacts as dependecies.
For me an advantage of this is that it can help to develop custom components that don’t need to be included inside the main project and can be deployed as independent components. This can be mainly true for backend components at least, so for example the Data Directory has been extended to support S3 and also there’s a PR for JCloud. These projects can be good candidates to be maintained outside GeoNetwork, referencing the artifacts required to build them, and installed only by the users that require these modules.
Regards,
Jose García
Hi PSC,
let me give a simple but actual example:
we do have a custom Geonetwork Schema (published on metadata101@…1290…). This Schema needs to be build (create the *jar file) using maven (as all the other geonetwork components).
At the moment it is necessary, to add the schema code to geonetwork, and compile the complete geonetwork, to build our schema jar
If the official artifacts are published (as common practice) on a public server, building a custom schema is possible just by adding the maven-repo tot he pom.xml like
OSGEO Release Repo
https://repo.osgeo.org/repository/release
[…]
This makes it much easier (and faster) to develop custom Schemas as drop-in for Geonetwork
Having the custom-schema.jar for the appropriate Geonwtork Release, it only takes two steps to add the Schema to a official Geonetwork-Release (*.war Download):
Copy custom-schema.jar to …/tomcat/webapps/geonetwork/WEB-INF/lib/
Copy the custom-schema XMLs to …/tomcat/webapps/geonetwork/WEB-INF/data/config/schema_plugins/
Best regards,
Marco

Hi Marco
We have a similar use case, maybe you’re interested for your schemas in this change added to one of the schemas we use, to package the jar and schema folder in a zip file to deliver to our customers:

How do we know when this motion is approved?
When if it is approved please add a comment to the system admin committee request and I can set things up for the project.
I am not sure if it is of interest but postgis and gdal recently started a docker registry on repo.osgeo.org also: https://repo.osgeo.org/#browse/search/docker
