[GeoNetwork-devel] Next steps for GeoNetwork docs using Season of Docs

Hi folks,

In case you are unaware, OSGeo was allocated two Google Summer of Code technical writer slots, of which the GeoNetwork project has been allocated one, Swapnil Ogale, with GeoNetwork mentoring coming from Byron, Jo, Paul, Maria, and a little Season of Docs / OSGeo legwork from me.

Some background work has been done auditing docs, creating a windows quickstart and creating howto and tutorial templates.

We have month left for Season of Docs, and we want to make sure we can make good use of Swapnil’s remaining time. (His wrap up week starts 24 Feb).

If you have some bandwidth - we’d love Swapnil’s writing experience to amplify your GeoNetwork doc experience.

Where to start:

(Templates should be moved to git within next week and address any feedback provided.)

You could:

  • Provide track changes on a specific doc which needs improvement. Doc updates can be provided in git or track changes in google docs or similar. (We hope to add a Feedback form to our doc that can be used soon.)
  • Update an existing tutorial or howto (or write a new one) based on templates above.
  • Confirm an existing howto or tutorial is still technically correct.

You don’t need to be an excellent writer - for the next month we have a technical writer who can help with that.

How Swapnil will help us:

  • For next month, Swapnil will be reviewing howtos and quickstarts we update and provide to him.

Are you interested? If so, please speak up.

Warm regards,

···
