Hi,
Could anyone please let me know if GeoNetwork (any version) supports retrieval of OpenSearch description document. I am planning to build a catalogue using GeoNetwork and would like to expose an OpenSearch endpoint interface so that my catalogue can be searched by anyone who has access to the endpoint. They can retrieve the OpenSearch description document from the endpoint and they can send query to the catalogue.
After going through user and developer manual, I am not able to find to how to make GeoNetwork expose the OpenSearch endpoint. In the end I want something like below. This URL returns OpenSearch description document.
https://scihub.esa.int/dhus/
Regards
Divya
I noticed that the URL to opensearch description document is no longer working. Here are another example:
http://grid-eo-catalog.esrin.esa.int/catalogue/gpod
I hope somebody could help me in understanding GeoNetwork’s capabilities to support OpenSearch endpoint.
regards

Hi,
For GeoNetwork 2.x (2.5.0 and above) it used to be here (recalling from 6 years ago):
http://www.fao.org/geonetwork/srv/en/portal.opensearch
Supporting text-suggest and geo extensions.
It had an auto-discover mechanism, so from GN’s home page you could add it to your browser’s search engines. Just tried on FireFox with FAO instance and still working.
In 3.0.4, the OpenSearchDescription document is no longer in the same location, so autodiscover mechanism breaks… don’t know if it’s just moved or has disappeared.
Regards,
Oscar.

In fact, the description document is still there, also in GN 3.0.x:
http://SERVER:PORT/geonetwork/srv/eng/portal.opensearch
But it was failing on the server I tested… so ended up submitting a PR.

Thanks for the info. Somehow I couldn’t find this information in the user and developer manual (2.x).
Let me test also with the local installation. Thanks once again.

Yes,
You have to patch xslt/services/rss/opensearch.xsl this way:
https://github.com/geonetwork/core-geonetwork/pull/1546/files
