[Geonetwork-devel] Re: GeoNetwork Assistance Request

Hi Steven,

your geonetwork installation was ok, as you can see from the setup.log.
Now, you need to start geonetwork so, open a terminal, go inside
geonetwork's bin directory and issue the command:

./start-geonetwork.sh

Now point firefox to localhost:8080/geonetwork to see geonetwork in action.

I have copied Jeroen because he can provide better infos (he is actually
running geonetwork on a mac).

Cheers,
Andrea

Andrea,

My problem is that I don't know what to do after installation. I'm
missing something very fundamental, I believe. I've searched on the
CD and online and I can only find substantial instructions for other
platforms, but not Macintosh.

Here's my Mac system:

I assume I meet all the requirements, including the default Java
environment that comes with the full Mac OS installation:

Power Mac G5 2GHz (latest model), which is PPC (not Intel)
OS 10.4.6 (latest version with latest updates of all components)

Here's what I've done so far:

1. Before receiving the install CD, I happened to visit the
GeoNetwork Opensource Community Website <http://193.43.36.138/> and
joined as user "minta".

2. Later, I received the CD (2.0.2) and installed everything
necessary for the standalone for Macintosh. However, during the
install process, I registered it as "administrator" because that was
the default text in the fill-in box. Is that a problem for me?

3. Everything seems to have installed fine, with the occupied folder
"geonetwork_desktop" in my Applications folder, and the setup.log
reporting:

4. Here is where I don't know what to do next, although it's clear to
me for Windows. By the way, if I go to the web site using Firefox
(http://193.43.36.138/), this is what I see:

Thanks for any pointers,
Steve
