[GeoNetwork-users] GeoNetwork 3.0.4 released

Dear all,

We're proud to announce the release of GeoNetwork opensource v3.0.4 (
http://geonetwork-opensource.org/). This is a minor release that includes
bug fixes discovered in earlier versions.

You can find the software at
https://sourceforge.net/projects/geonetwork/files/GeoNetwork_opensource/v3.0.4/

You can find a list of changes in v3.0.4 at
http://geonetwork-opensource.org/manuals/trunk/eng/users/overview/change-log/version-3.0.4.html

If you have any improvements you want to contribute back, the best is to
use git to get a local copy of the source code, apply the fix and put out a
Pull request so your improvements can be integrated quickly. Otherwise you
can also create new Tickets in the issue tracker:
https://github.com/geonetwork/core-geonetwork/issues

Thanks and congratulations to the all community members and developers that
have been putting a huge amount of effort and energy in this release!

Hi Jose,

Thank you for this news.

By the way, do you know how to upgrade from version 3.0.3 ?
I am not able to find any instruction either in the GN 3 documentation or
the internet...

Some people suggest just to put the war in the tomcat/webapps directory, but
I'm afraid to loose all the settings...

Best regards,

Olivier

Olivier,
The only way I have found to upgrade GeoNetwork is to undeploy the existing GeoNetwork using Tomcat Manager and then adding the WAR to Tomcat (using whichever method you follow) to install the new GeoNetwork. It seems a number of settings remain in the database and are transferred to the new install. That said, my setup is extremely basic and has little in the way of customization, but that is the process I use for upgrades.

I would recommend against installing the new GeoNetwork over the old one. In my experience that only succeeds in corrupting the existing site.

Do you mean that in your case the database is external to the tomcat directory ?
I would not understand how the data and settings could remain otherwise…

Hi Oliver

Which database are you using? The default H2? Thats not the best for
production, but in any case, the database files should be in some path
under tomcat, search for these files:

   - geonetwork.h2.db
   - geonetwork.trace.db

Not sure if will be inside the geonetwork folder, if thats the case you
need to backup them and when deployed the new version copy to the same path.

Also some data, like files uploaded to the metadata, thumbnails are stored
in the Data directory (see
http://geonetwork-opensource.org/manuals/trunk/eng/users/maintainer-guide/installing/customizing-data-directory.html#structure-of-the-data-directory
)

By default the data directory is in geonetwork/WEB-INF/data, you need to
backup only the subfolder geonetwork/WEB-INF/data/data (index and config
subfolders are not required as the index is recreated when GeoNetwork
starts up and config is related to thesaurus and schema plugins that you
want to get the latest version in 3.0.4)

In any case, make a full backup of the geonetwork folder for your actual
version before doing the upgrade.

Regards,

Jose García

Hi Jose,

Yes we use the default H2 database, we were not sure of the benefits with using a separate database in another format.
Anyway, it should actually be a good choice to at least put the database in a separate directory :o)

For the migration, I will backup an restore the data dir as you suggest.

Thanks for the help !

Best regards,

Olivier

Database is stored in tomcat folder, not in geonetwork deployed war (unpacked
folder), so about this there is no problems.
About datadir, it is better if you put external datadir, so you don't need
to do backup if you are migrating to newer version. Read here:
