By default, Tomcat security is enabled with Ubuntu.
Add the following file to your /etc/tomcat5.5/policy.d/ directory. I called mine 99geoeserver.policy
grant codeBase "file:/usr/share/tomcat5.5/webapps/geoserver/-" {
permission java.security.AllPermission;
};
I must say, that I am using the latest beta version of geoserver, and not the one that ships with Geonetwork. However, it should not matter. If so, please let me know!
Best regards,
Jason

Subject: Re: [GeoNetwork-users] Problem Update Ubuntu Festy to Gutsy
In fact i see that my catalina log is not complete !
I update my tomcat5,5 configuration to replace the catalina.out pipe to
catalina.txt file
and very interesting information appear :
Someone understand what's happen with java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0.13 ?
I don't
Maybe the more simple is to force the use of the java 1.5.0.11 i have on my
ubuntu festy release ?
What are you thinking about ?
Very thank you
Here the real catalina log !

Thank you for your answer Jason,
sure it's a problem with geoserver and not geonetwork.
I also post my problem on the geoserver forum
but unfortunaly the problem still remain.
In fact i try also to install the next release of geoserver the 1.5.4 but
it also don't start
(the prefs.xml message disapear with the 1.5.4 but the GRAVE: Error
listenerStart remain )
But if i use the embeded jetty with the 1.5.4 the geosever work and the
1.5.3 release coming from the geonetwork 2.1 work also with jetty so i
think that my java environement is good.
I suspect a problem with tomcat 5.5 on gusty.
But it is strange that geonetwork and intermap work very well !
That the complete catalina log file resulting from the tomcat5.5 start.
It is not very long.

I am running on a very similar setup. and have not had any trouble (other
than my continuing problems with Geonetwork).
Could you send me a complete log dump of your catalina log file? If it is
big, please send to me directly, and I will try and see if there is
anything going on and post back to the mailing list.
This is actually problem with Geoserver, and not geonetwork.
Best regards,
Jason
