[GeoNetwork-users] Purpose of thesauri management application

Hi,

I'd like to know what the purpose is of the thesaurus management
application integrated in the Geonetwork administrator part.

It allows you to manage the content of 5 RDF/SKOS thesauri, external or
local, but:
- only the thesaurus of type "place" is available, i.e. the file
"regions.rdf";
- its content matches the content of these 2 related tables "regions" and
"regionsdes" in the Geonetwork catalogue database, but as far as I can
tell, there is no relation between the local RDF file and the content of
these tables...?
- the RDF file (XML) is not referenced by any of the XML Schema's
(ISO-19115, ISO-19139,...) or metadata instances (for validation
purposes).

In short, I do not understand the purpose of the thesaurus management
application with regard to the Geonetwork catalogue.
Probably, it is to be considered a separate application that happens to be
integrated in Geonetwork.

I cannot find any explanation on this in the Geonetwork documentation,
user lists, developer lists etc.

Thanks,
Joeri

Hi Joeri, in the doc directory you should have the admin guide. In that
guide, you'll have a full description of thesaurus managment in GeoNetwork.
The thesaurus of type place is not really useful you're right because
the information is in the DB. But we made test using Agrovoc Thesaurus
and others. You could upload Agrovoc in GeoNetwork. Then the editor will
help you selecting keywords.

There's quite a lot of other issues on thesaurus managment
(multilingual, store id instead of name) which have been discussed on
the dev mailling list
(http://www.nabble.com/forum/Search.jtp?forum=18419&local=y&query=thesaurus)
and during the last workshop.

Hi Francois-Xavier, thanks for this information: I must have been looking
into the wrong doc folder or an obsolete version of the admin guide. The
use of the thesaurus and the purpose of the administration or clear to me
know.

Regards,
Joeri

I'm just getting started with GeoNetwork and have a test installation up and running. I am beginning to migrate my current metadata clearinghouse into GeoNetwork. Two questions:

1) How can I change the logo image associated with each organization? (I guess this would the group for that metadata entry.. or not?) I saw this: http://geonetwork-opensource.org/administrator/exercises/exercise_2, but cannot find the sources.xml file.

2) How can I add a preview image for each metadata entry? Can I do this for both ISO and FGDC metadata? Can this preview image also be the browse graphic, at least for FGDC-based metadata?

If it matters, I am running GeoNetwork 2.1 on WAMP. Thank you for your help.
