GeoServer 2.28.4 released

Hi GeoServer users

We know that you are on the edge of your seats, eagerly awaiting GeoServer 3.0.0, due in a few days time, but we are still looking after the previous 2.28 series too!

This is a special stable release of 2.28.4 (it would normally have switched into maintenance 6 months after its initial release).

For those organisations still on previous series 2.27 and earlier, we really recommend that you upgrade to this version, to make the transition to GeoServer 3 smoother. And then upgrade to 3.0.0, as soon as you are comfortable.

See the blog posts:

GeoServer 2.28.4 has been released: https://geoserver.org/announcements/2026/05/25/geoserver-2-28-4-released.html
We apologise once again that we are not yet able to provide a Windows Installer.

Hello, thank you very much for the new release!

However, could it be that push to the Nexus Repository failed for some reason?

Hi @Tommy , which component are you talking about?

I think it’s the repo.osgeo.org Nexus repository (e.g., Index of /org/geoserver/gs-main)

Thanks Steve & Tommy, I’ll investigate. There definitely were problems with the 2.28 release, after the 3.0 (-RC) changes.

@Tommy thanks so much for picking this up, the expected gs-main files should now be there: Index of /org/geoserver/gs-main/2.28.4
