[Geoserver-devel] geoserver/wfs with Solr?

Hello,

I’ve been requested to look into the possibility of using Solr as a data source for GeoServer, and a plugin seems like the best way to go. I did a search to see if anyone had already done this and came across this thread from last year. Does anyone know if there’s been any success/progress with this? If not, does anyone have a rough idea of what the biggest challenges might be in creating such a plugin might be? I think Solr itself has plugins that can spit out GeoRSS or GeoJSON.

Ciao Ashley,
good timing, we (as my company) are drafting these days the concept of
a store that works on top of solr
for indexing cultural heritage sites in Italy.

GeoServer can surely help to go from solr to wfs but you’ll have to
write a custom plugin to turn solr responses
into something that GeoServer can chew and spit out as WFS. Notice
that GeoServer will need to know the
structure of the solr responses in order to turn them into something like GML.

If you want to know more about what we are drafting, let me know.
