1 non-critical goal for 2.4 I'd like to add/offer is re-enabling the geometryless data store. I've updated it so it compiles and runs tests, yet to check against a geoserver build - whats the timeframe for geoserver trunk to run against 2.4 ?

Well we should of related for a 2.3.RC, but yes since they made the branch lets call trunk 2.4-SNAPSHOT.
2.4-SNAPSHOT has a very small list of goals ...
1) Do the QA improvements that stopped the FM branch
2) The Factory "fixes" mentioned on email - ie make sure we can use a PojoFeatureFactory with ShapefileDataStore
3) Let the Factory system work with classloaders (ie make the lookup technique work with factory SPI, Spring and Eclipse)
