Topics- Java 9/10/11 Roadmap

  • QGIS Styling

  • 20.0/2.14.0 release timeline.

## Java 9/10/11 Roadmap

Java roadmap compatibility sprint proposed for October

See Mailing List discussion

QGIS Compatibility Sprint

See Mailing List discussion

Aside:

QGIS allows storing styles in PostGIS and GeoPackage.

Is it possible for GeoServer to read such styles - not currently.

Perhaps this could be implemented as a special “External SLD” URL

Action: Move to mailing list discussion.

**## 20.0/2.14.0/1.14.0 release timeline**

2.14.0 release currently scheduled for September (RC in August)

Last two fall releases have been delayed; looking at the release schedule, GT 14.0 / GS 2.8.0 was released 2015-09-23 (September). The next fall release, 2.10.0, was delayed until October, 2.12.x followed the same pattern, so the 2.14.0 release is us finally getting back on track.

**## Pull Request review**

GeoTools PR review; 9 PRs removed, several others awaiting feedback.

Hum… that would require a custom client though, one that knows the special URL and can figure out the right values.
Last time we discussed this it was at the GeoTools level, the outcome was to make these styles available as a part
of a *Info object attached to a FeatureSource right?
I’d suggest to go on this way, and then maybe add a counterpart in GeoServer, a NativeStyleInfo maybe, sub-interface
of StyleInfo, that does not only have a name, but also a reference to the store/source where the style comes from.
This would make it look like a normal style to most of the system, we’d just have to pay attention about removing
these styles when the source/store is gone (in the cascading delete machinery)

Cheers
Andrea

I quite like that idea Andrea. One thing I have not heard addressed from any of these SLD in GeoPackage / PostGIS proposals is how to store icons? I guess it is limited to SE 1.1 encoding icons in the XML file.
