I am trying to update the log level with the following procedure:

  • edit logging.xml file in the datadir
  • trigger a reload of the catalog (via REST but should not make a difference)

At a first glance everything looks fine but something starnge is going on:
The geoserver UI shows the new level is set but looking at the log files and stdout of the application containers the change has not taken place:

*Initial state

*I edit logging.xml

I trigger a catalog reload

curl -v -u 'admin:geoserver' -XPOST localhost:8080/geoserver/rest/reload

I navigate the geoserver UI and it looks like the new log level is in place:

Nothing in the logs, still using PRODUCTION profile:

Small aside: I could not find a direct REST call to update the log level in one shot. It sould be very useful in my opinion
