Example use case: We have some layers that we want users to always see pre-rendered tiles for. The data is update or a style adjusted only rarely, and we want to schedule the updating of the to happen in an off-peak period (it takes about 10 hours). It’d be useful to just not have the stale tiles disappear. The way we’re handling it at the moment is to spin up a second sever in the background, load the updated data/styles on that, render tiles and then switch it into the role of the main server when it’s ready.
