[Geoserver-devel] New community module: fgdb

Hello All,

As discussed in last week’s PMC meeting, I have obtained approval to donate Boundless’s fgdb module to the GeoServer community.

As such, I would like to request permission to add this as a new community module.

The fgdb module adds a standalone datastore supporting the FileGeoDataBase format (backed by OGR/GDAL) and an Importer format to provide FileGDB support for the GeoServer importer extension.

Cheers,

Torben

Hi Torben,
thanks for the follow up!

The interesting bit to me is the importer integration. About the datastore, I see a factory but not a UI,
while the generic OGR store has now one with file chooser (not mandatory to choose a file):

https://github.com/geoserver/geoserver/blob/master/doc/en/user/source/community/ogr-store/index.rst

Wondering, what about just keeping the importer bit, with a tiny rewiring to make it use the OGR store
directly? Or would that be a problem for backwards compatibility in the suite?

Cheers
Andrea

I see no problem with rewiring the store to use the OGR store directly, I’ll do that when I move it over.

Regarding the OGR UI, I assume you are referring to the one from the web-ogr community module?
Since that module is just UI, I’ll just have the modified fgdb depend on the GeoTools OGR store, leaving the UI module as optional.

Great

Indeed it is pure UI, so you can depend on the OGR store directly

Initial module import here: https://github.com/geoserver/geoserver/pull/3393

It compiles, but I haven’t tested if it actually works yet (I discovered that I don’t actually have a local GDAL that includes the JNI bindings).

I’m going to try and track down a version of GDAL for Mac that has what I need and see if I can test it out, but for now, the code has at least been donated to GeoServer.
