A)
If I name my folder, my shapefiles and my dataStore
'communes_shapefile_communes', it does the same, except that the new
folder is named communes_shapefiles_communes_shapefile_communes (;-).
If I name my folder 'communes_shapefile_communes', my shapefiles
'communes' and my dataStore 'communes', the new empty folder is named
'communes_communes'.
BUT If I define the dataStore, click on apply and save, my new empty foler
appears.
AND I copy my folder again with the rigth files inside, it works !
The bug seemes to come from the dataStore definition...
B)
If I name my folder and my files 'communes'
If I name my dataStore 'communes_shapefile' that point to communes, when I
apply and save, I get a new empty foler named
'communes_shapefile_communes'.
If I copy my old folder 'communes' back and If I define my featureType
'communes', I get the new emplty foler 'communes_shapefile_communes'.
BUT if I copy my old folder 'communes' back (again). It works !... 'til I
click on 'save' and 'appy'.
I hope it may help you.

You know, I've had reports of this bug before, and tried to reproduce it
before 1.2.3, and wasn't able to. But I was also in a rush to get a
bunch of stuff in in time, so I didn't try super hard. I'll try again,
your report is more detailed than the last one I had, see:
http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-221 I just moved it up to
'critical' for the next release for you. One question, if you name the
folder where you initially copy the shapefiles
'communes_shapefiles_communes' instead of 'communes' then does it still
do the same thing? It's definitely not you doing anything wrong, it is
a bug, that I'll work to get fixed for 1.2.3

Quoting Jérémy DE ROYER <jeremy.deroyer@anonymised.com>:
Hello,
I installed to geoserver and after testing all the functionnalies 'as
it',
I tried to add new files (shapefile format) to be served via
geoserver.
My configuration
----------------
Windows XP, Geoserver 1.2.3, JRE 1.4.2_04
What I want to do
-----------------
I want to add a new featureType based on shapefile
What I did
----------
I copy my folder containing (communes.dbf, communes.shp,
communes.shx) into :
- C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat
5.0\webapps\geoserver\data\featureTypes
I define a new Datastore named "communes_shapefile" with the
following url :
- file:data/featureTypes/communes/communes.shp
I click on 'apply'
I click on 'save'
As soon as I click on 'save', my folder 'communes' with the 3 files
are
deleted ???
If I don't click on the button 'save' and if I create the featureType
'commune' instead, as soon as I click on 'apply' and 'save', my
folder
'communes' with the 3 files are deleted and a new folder
'communes_shapefiles_communes' is created with the file info.xml
inside
Where am I wrong ?
