[Geoserver-devel] PSC Membership

Hi all,

Sorry about my delayed reply, but I am on holiday during July.

I have seen my name mentioned (inactive and potential members) with a question mark on the last protocol, and I am unsure how to interpret.

Some facts from my side:

  1. I am aware of the fact that I am a member of the Geotools PSC, but during these last months I was pushing on the geoserver security module and finishing my master thesis. The study is finished and I am looking forward to new challenges.

  2. AFAIK the meetings are at 3 p.m. on Monday. Normally, I am at my customer at this time, things become complicated. It is not possible for me to attend the meetings on a regular basis.

  3. Since I have a part time contract with OpenGeo, I have to ask first. @Justin, can you figure out the situation?

  4. I do not have the overall picture about all geoserver modules, but my first customer (OpenGeo is the second one) is working with a geoserver/geonetwork combination (I migrated from ESRI stuff) to fulfill the INSPIRE directive.

  5. Looking into the future, I see a lot of security work to do. Perhaps it is not a bad idea to have a crazy security guy in the PSC.

Last but not least, the PSC has to decide. At the end of the day, I will contribute to geoserver independent of PSC membership.

Christian

Hi Christian,

my understanding is your position in the PSC is not being questioned,
but just wondering whether you (and any other else) do want to
continue with it. A simple statement about the intention of continuing
being a PSC member is all what's being asked for (I had to make my own
too). Meeting attendance is not a requirement to be on the PSC just
because some can't make it. Although if you have anything to add when
you read the meeting notes that'd be appreciated by all.
What is a requirement is to try to provide feedback on the different
GSIPs and to vote on them.

That is my understanding. Looking forward to others' comments as I may
be missing something.

Cheers,
Gabriel

Just to chime in that i echo Gabriel and Jody. With an emphasis on the most important requirement for PSC members is trying to contribute to evaluating proposals and other things that require voting when they are offered. So if you think that is possible i am in full support of you continuing on the psc.
