[Geoserver-devel] Release builds with Java 8, a doubt

Hi all,
following up a question about Java compatibility on the user list I’ve noticed
that the release jobs are hard-coded to use Java 11… which, if un-noticed,
would have made us release GeoServer 2.22.x and 2.21.x that might have been
Java 11 compatible only.

Hum… is it possible to make the builds parametric on the JDK too?
Or, maybe I’m worrying for nothing, as the target JVM compliance in the pom files
is Java 8 anyways (and we haven’t introduced usage of Java 11 API, as the
regular builds are happily on the green anyways)?

I tried making use of the jenkins built in ability for a JDK parameter but did not understanding the resulting failure. It is worth trying again.

Hi Jody,
what did you do to try that out?

The JDK choice is a drop down, does not accept free text…
I see there is a plugin that adds a JDK parameter support to builds… it has a known XSS issue, but
for a build that only admins can run, it might not be a problem (opinions?).
