[Geoserver-devel] Time Filter issue

Hy guys,
sorry to bother with my requests … actually I’m going to develop a new small project where I should filter some features from a shapefile/database against different attribute types which can be even time.
At this moment I have no clear ideas on how can I get a time filter on features, or how to interface features with time attributes and using it with GeoTools/GeoServer.
So … before starting my researches, I would like to ask if some of you have already done something similar and could show me a good starting direction or maybe someone has an idea to let me follow the right path!!!

For clarity I will try to describe better (as I can at this moment) my issue.
At a certain (very near) point of my life I should have to manage some objects stored somewhere. Those object can be represented as a DB record, with several attributes. Among those attributes there is even a date-time attribute. What I have to do at the end is a simple WMS client which get those objects from GeoServer, doing some filtering, of course, even against time attributes.

Thank you very much for your help!!!

Hi Alessio:
I think TIME filtering will be well worth the effort.
Looking at some info, I ran into a wiki page that describes how
Mapserver handles time:
http://mapserver.gis.umn.edu/docs/howto/wms_time_support/view

The situation for specifying multiple time values to filter Features
makes sense. But how would one do the same for Coverages?

Alex

Hi

one of the main use cases for the complex-features branch was time-series observations.

I successfully used WFS with date -range queries against a sampling time.

For WMS, we would ideally support the TIME parameter, but failing that we can send filters in an SLD successfully. I have only tested this extensively on complex-features, but I plan to set up regression tests for this once the FM branch comes home...

Hi Rob,
is there somewhere a GML filter example for a time attribute? Are your queries located in the gt_complex-features branch? Have you used the standard LiteralExpression or there is a particoular filter implemented somewhere?
