Dear All,
sorry for crossposting. We have found a bug in the ImageIO-Ext tiff
reader with the parsing of Exif metadata. It is a minor problem but
it's annoying since
the natural earth data uses these tags.
Long story short, we are going to make a new minor of imageio-ext with
this fix next week. I would ask for your permission to update the
dependency in geotools/geoserver as well.
There are no other changes besides this one with respect to the
release we are using which is 1.1.7.
Sounds like an important bug fix to me. No objection to upgrading asap given that the expected side effects should be minimal (and it sounds like they will be).

Thanks Simone - I have been adding prj files to the natural earth dataset as a workaround.
