Dear Frederick,
I had the same problem at exactly the same time, and was eagerly looking for
the answers. I did not get them in my digests either :(. Could you please
send around a summary of the solution?
Thanks,
Martin

Hey, no problem:
I don’t know if it is essential to have the same layerorder in the layergroup as in the SLD-file but in my case, in which it’s working, it is.
- add the contents of the SLD file as a new style in GeoServer
- assign that style to every layer in the layergroup
- when you send the wms-request make sure to add the sld=… parameter in the request url (http://192.1…/geoserver/wms?sld=yoursld.sld&style=&request=GetMap… (make sure to leave the value of the style parameter empty since this works only in combination with a splitted layer parameter)
You don’t need to upload your sld file to any other location to use the url in the sld prameter. Once you created a new style in geoserver the SLD-file can be found in http://192.1…/geoserveer/styles/yourstyle.sld
This is how it worked in my case, I hope this helps…

Thank Frederick, that’s a wonderful writeup.
Will see if that works for us.
