After the recent discussion of "virtual services", I'm particularly excited for the release of version 2.1. We've had to roll our own "service packaging" intermediating Web layer to organize our thousands of featureTypes and raster layers, and having this functionality would be a wonderful boon.
GeoServer Jira, oddly enough, has a 1 Oct 2009 release date scheduled for v2.1. Is that a typo for 1 Oct 2010? Or is there some other expected date?

There is no expected date, we did not even talk about making a release
so far.
Actually I asked for the first time today on the developer list
to see how others feel about making a first beta release.
1 Oct 2010 seems realistic, yes, but it's just my gut feeling.
Cheers
