Hi,
I'm new to GIS and have just downloaded and installed Java SE 6 U14 &
Geoserver 1.7.5 all with default settings onto a Vista machine. GeoServer
appears to start fine and is running in services.
In IE using "http://127.0.0.1:8080/geoserver/" I get a 503 error:
HTTP ERROR: 503
SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE
RequestURI=/geoserver/welcome
Powered by jetty://
In IE using "http://localhost:8080/geoserver/" I just get the "Internet
Explorer cannot display the webpage" page.
The log file reveals extensive errors as follows
http://www.nabble.com/file/p24595864/geoserver.log geoserver.log
I have reinstalled GeoServer a number of times, and the error file looks
pretty much the same each time.
Any help appreciated! Thanks PS.

Hi. Which version are you using? I know the Windows service installer has some issues on Vista which resulted in a 503. If so, you may want to use the legacy installer for now...
Thanks,

Hi Mike, thanks.
originally reported problems were using the new windows installer, have also
tried reinstalling using the legacy windows installer, but it appears not to
install the wrapper, so the "Start GeoServer" shortcut won't work. Tried
installing the wrapper seperately, but then although the "Start GeoServer"
shortcut flashes the cmd window, both localhost:8080/geoserver and
127.0.0.1:8080/geoserver just return the IE "cannot display webpage" screen.
Any other ideas? I'm a newbie on this stuff - is there something dumb that
I'm missing?
