I have had the same problem. You can watche the log file and see the error message(illegal characters in the path). If it's the same bug, all spaces in the path are wrong and you must install Geoserver on the C:\ root or install the last nigthly build where the bug is fixed.

I am not using spaces in between my paths (gs_data_dir and other internal variables paths). But thinking what could be happened the only path that has spaces is my systems are where tomcat and geoserver are located:

c:/Program Files (x86)/Apache Software Fundation/Tomcat 6.0/webapps/geoserver

I am already sent you my gsml eziped directory to your private e-mail

does any of the paths for c: or d: have spaces in between? (like in c:\datos de prueba\geoserver or whatever)

I think the app-schema team just fixed a bug related to that.

What are you using as your data source? if shapefiles or any other file
based source could you send me your data directory so I can give it a try and see what's going on? (preferably zippped through private email, the list won't accept the attachment I guess).

I made all test on a Windows XP 64. Geoserver is installed in disk c: and geoserver data is installed in disk d:

I installed geoserver 2 rc1 war file.
