[Geoserver-users] Fresh geoserver deployment help/suggestions

I have a centos 6.4 server with 1gb of ram. I installed the opengeo-suite but just the geoserver piece (someone helped a few months back). browsing to the page https://ipaddress:8080/geoserver/web/ it reports that it is a geoserver 2.2 snapshot.

What is the geoserver 2.2 snapshot? I ask because I am at the beginning stage of a total configuration. I like the opengeo-suite idea but I’m not sure what it gives me vs. building myself geoserver 2.4.2 and all the acompanying packages as I need them (aside from the nice user interface but I guess geoserver has one itself…never seen it). I will be managing the servers from a windows laptop via putty.

My current goal is to get postgresql 9.3, postgis 2(I guess), openlayers 2, and geoserver 2.4.2 all running and focus on building openlayers applications. I am fairly new to linux and all this so any advice or tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Justin,
a SNAPSHOT version is not an official release, but simply a release built
at a specific date/time with the current codebase. It could be, for
example, a nightly, that is a release that is built every night
automatically by Jenkins, the Continuous integration tool used by
Geoserver. Since it's a 2.2 SNAPSHOT, it's also quite old.

I would sugggest you to install the latest Geoserver version, that is 2.4.2
at the moment. You can download it from here:
