[Geoserver-users] GeoServer in a distributed environment?

Hi all,

I’m NEW to GeoServer.I was wondering whether there is a possible way to deploy GeoServer as a WMS Server in a distributed environment (distributed server, replica server, etc.) to enhance scalability and robustness. Unfortunately I did not find any more useful information from Google orthe documentation. Maybe I did it in a wrong way. It would be great if any of you could give me some help and advice. Thank you.

Cheers,
Jovi

Look for the FOSS4G 2009 presentation "GeoServer in production", it might give you some indication on how to create a cluster of GS instances via load balancing

Cheers

Jovi,

here is the FOSS4G information for this presentation:
http://2009.foss4g.org/presentations/#presentation_163

The slides are an OpenOffice Impress document:
http://download.osgeo.org/osgeo/foss4g/2009/SPREP/3Fri/Parkside%20Auditorium/1300/fri%20paud%201400%20aime.odp

If you don't have OpenOffice, get it here:
http://www.openoffice.org/

Or you can just watch the video of the slides with presenter audio:

Kind regards,

Hallo Andrea,

For the load balancing part, is it possible to configure GeoWebCache so that it acts like a SERIOUS load balancer? I know the main job of GWC is caching, and I did not find the term load balancing in the feature list. But it does look like a load balancer for me, to some extent.

Cheers,
Hongqi

GWC can use multiple backends in a round robin fashion. But it does so with sheepish grin, so it may not be serious enough for your use case.
