I have the TIGERS 2010 PLACES SHAPEFILE for Florida imported into Postgis…the shapes show correctly in QGIS…but get all wonkey when previewing the layer via openlayers…
Example of the wonkiness I am talking about…

What version of GeoServer are you using? Try out 2.1.1 at least.
If you can reproduce with 2.1.1 as well could you provide a direct link to the shapefile download?
Btw, that layer is of polygonal nature right? Because the SLD spec says that if you have a line
layer and you try to paint it with a polygon symbolizer the start and end of lines should be
connected to form closed polygons and you would get exactly that result.
Cheers

I think I’ve found the shapefile, it’s called topp:tl_2010_12_place10 right?
It’s polygonal, and displays fine for me, I’ve attached a sample over the same area you used in
your screenshot
Cheers

Correct…OK I am using the version of geoserver that is included in the opengeo installable package for Ubuntu. I ran an apt-get upgrade and there doesnt seem to be any updates available for it.
