GeoServer Users
I recently purchased a newer Lenovo T400 with Windows 7 and am unable to
connect to http://localhost:8080/geoserver
Receive the following error
HTTP ERROR: 404
NOT_FOUND
RequestURI=/geoserver/web/
Powered by jetty://
Anyone have any ideas what the issue is.
The only log files I find is a wrapper.log
STATUS | wrapper | 2010/01/28 20:32:03 | GeoServer 2.0.1 installed.

I had a problem on Windows 7 too. I had to change the permissions on my GeoServer directory in windows for it to work. Don’t know if that is the same problem though.

What's the content of that log file when you start the Geoserver service? (start menu -> programs -> geoserver -> start)

Jon,
What did you need to change to get things working on W7? If you're using the Windows installer, and permissions are not being set correctly, please file a JIRA for it, and I'll see what I can do.
Thanks,

In a nut shell I had to set the JAVA _HOME and GEOSERVER_HOME environment
variables and also change the Geoserver service variable from "Manual" to
"Automatic." Seems to work now. The wrapper (??) doesn't seem to work
requiring me to double click of the Startup.bat and Shutdown.bat files.

If you are using the startup/shutdown files then the service set up
should be irrelevant, Mike?

Actually no, surprisingly. The startup/shutdown batch files in the Windows installer are actually different from the .bin flavor, and are generated during the install. For instance, the startup.bat on my (service) install of 2.0.1 has the line:
call "C:\Program Files\GeoServer 2.0.1\wrapper.exe" -t wrapper/wrapper.conf
So, in short, I'm still not quite sure what's going on.
Thanks,

I just joined this forum and thanks to the hints posts above, I was able to
install GeoServer 2.0.2 on a Windows 7 system this evening.
The problem for me was as follows:
1. The GEOSERVER_HOME environment variable was set by the installer to
"C:\Program Files (x86)\GeoServer 2.0.1" . I changed this to "...\GeoServer
2.0.2" .
2. The JAVA_HOME environment and system variables were pointing to an
earlier update of the Java Runtime Environment. (This was probably my
fault, because I hadn't uninstalled the earlier updates.) I changed the
path to the most recent update from Oracle. [I'm not sure if this was
100% necessary, though.]
3. The "wrapper.log" file was complaining (Fatal Error) that some of the
"dll" files were not accessible, even though they were found where they were
supposed to be. I changed the permissions for the "C:\Program Files
(x86)\GeoServer 2.0.2" folder so that they would be more accessible.
I also set GeoServer to load as a Windows service.
These changes seem to have done the trick. I can now access GeoServer on my
browser.
