[Geoserver-users] Issue with Geoserver 2.5 and Oracle SQL View layers

Dear all,

I’ve been working on SQL View layers based on Oracle NG datastore.

I’m currently testing similar layers with a Geoserver 2.5 instance, and i’m facing several issues (tests with Geoserver layer preview):

  • some features are not rendered in WMS for some zooming levels (i clarify that i’m using the default polygon style without any SLD zoom scale rule)
  • some features disappear by moving the map
  • GetFeatureInfo does not seem to work (empty output)

In the past, i was using Geoserver 2.2 for which it was working perfectly.

I’m wondering if;

  • any user is experimenting the same kind of problem with Oracle NG or other of DB datastore?
  • some hints could be provided to better track the source of this problem?
  • or if possibly a bug has been yet identified by developers?

Many thanks in advance for your help,

Emmanuel

Hi Emmanuel,
the issue is overall new to me. Just to be sure, are you using 2.5.0 or 2.5.1?
It would be best if you tried the latter

Cheers
Andrea

I think I’ve seen this before using Oracle. I fixed it, but I can’t remember what did the trick! It might be something to do with the Loose BBOX setting - do you have this enabled?

Same log is mentioned in http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gis.geoserver.user/41561
Could this be related to the issues i've reported?

Another important note: the geoserver in question is deployed on Tomcat 8 / JDK 8. Any advice either if it is suitable for a geoserver 2.5.0 / 2.5.1?

(Many) Thanks in advance
Emmanuel

Andrea,

Maybe the information below can help?
I have enabled geotools logging in Geoserver, and after doing a layer
preview wms request, this is what i get in the log:

2014-06-11 18:48:28,479 DEBUG [org.geotools.jdbc] - Failed to unwrap
connection using java 6 facilities

Normally this happens if you have the oracle driver both in GeoServer
web-inf/lib, and in the web container
shared libs (e.g., tomcat/lib).
Make sure you have it in a single place

Same log is mentioned in

http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gis.geoserver.user/41561
Could this be related to the issues i've reported?

Another important note: the geoserver in question is deployed on Tomcat 8
/ JDK 8. Any advice either if it is suitable for a geoserver 2.5.0 / 2.5.1?

You are totally on your own I'm afraid, JDK 8 is not supported, we just
moved to support JDK 7 on the
GeoServer dev series (will become 2.7.x in September). May work, may not.

Cheers
Andrea

Thanks for your prompt and valuable remarks,

I will liaise with colleagues that were recently in charge of deploying this new instance of geoserver:
- to make up your valuable comments about JDK support.
- to check the location of the oracle driver

Thanks again for your support

Cheers
Emmanuel

Dear Andrea,

I come back to you on this issue, doing some local tests:
- I've set-up a geoserver 2.5.0 with Oracle datastore, based on JDK6 --> The rendering issues i've initially reported disappeared. However i've still the GetFeatureInfo not working.
- then, on your advices, i've moved to 2.5.1 --> the GetFeatureInfo now works perfectly

In conclusion, tests were successfull with the following Tomcat 6 / JDK 6 / Geoserver 2.5.1.
A last question: if existing, could you point me to a JIRA ticket about the GetFeatureInfo issue? Before moving 2.5.1, i've noticed that i had the same issue as reported here http://osgeo-org.1560.x6.nabble.com/Geoserver-puts-wrong-srid-to-the-spatial-filter-query-td5107048.html

Thanks in advance
Emmanuel

Eh, I don't see a specific issue for that unfortunately, so the change be a
by-product of some other fix
Btw, Java 7 is safe to use on 2.5.x, we have several deployments of 2.5.x
and 2.4.x on that JDK, haven't found specific issues with it.

Cheers
