[Geoserver-users] kmPlacemark in Geoserver 1.6.4?

Hi Folks,

Is the “kmplacemark” format option (for adding placemarks to raster features) implimented in version 1.6.4 or are we waiting until 1.7.0 for this feature?

Thanks,
Damian Bradley

The placemark feature will be in 1.7.0. It is already available in the release candidates, but it is not in the 1.6.x branch.

Thanks David.

This does peak my curiosity about the policy on documentation updates. Unless I’m missing something, the current online documentation for KMplacemark didn’t specify which version started support this feature. I assumed that online docs applied to the current, stable release only.

IMHO, best practice would be to have some metadata, something like a note in the chapter/section specifying what version of Geoserver contained the first implementation of a given feature. That would add documentation value for ‘legacy’ versions, and keep people from getting confused about what features are available in their particular version of Geoserver…

Just a thought!

Cheers,
Damian Bradley

Hi Damian,

You make an excellent point, there is definitely a hole in our documentation. We are actually in the process of doing a major doc overhaul (in terms of doc guidelines and content), so things will be getting better soon.

And indeed one of the things we have come up with is clearly stating on pages which versions of GeoServer various documents apply to.

Yes, I agree that there are plenty of improvements to make to our documentation system. If you have any other suggestions, please send them my way.

Mike et al,

I’d be happy to get a little more involved in terms of feedback with geoserver…docs or otherwise. It will depend on how much time I have available, but let me know if there is an appropriate time/place to put in my opinion. I am certainly eager to keep appraised of the developments in the pipeline.

Thanks,
Damian
