[Geoserver-users] Latest stable release GeoServer 2.24.0

We are very pleased to eventually announce the release of the latest stable version of GeoServer 2.24.0 (in conjunction with GeoTools 30.0). The release contains a number of new features, bug fixes and enhancements so you are encouraged to upgrade to it. Many more details are available in the related blog posts, please take the time to read them:

GeoServer (https://geoserver.org/announcements/2023/10/15/geoserver-2-24-0-released.html)

GeoTools (https://geotoolsnews.blogspot.com/2023/10/geotools-300-released.html)

Your attention is specifically drawn to the Upgrade Notes:

GeoServer strives to maintain backwards compatibility allowing for a smooth upgrade experience.

We have one minor change to share in this release:

  • URL Checks: The url check security setting is now enabled by default.

In GeoServer 2.22.5 and 2.23.2 this setting was available for use, but was turned off by default. If you are not yet in a position to upgrade to 2.24.0 you may wish to enable the recommended setting.

Peter and Jody

Hi all,

when looking to the OSGeo Nexus it seems the Docker Image for GeoServer version 2.24.0 is missing: https://docker.osgeo.org/#browse/search/docker=attributes.docker.imageName%3Dgeoserver%20AND%20attributes.docker.imageTag%3D2.24*

Is that the case or am I looking at the wrong spot? In case it is really missing, is there a planned date when the image will be available?

Thanks for any hint / help.

Best regards
Chris

Hi,

I am also missing the image, but in the build logs of version 2.24.0 you can see in the second last line that a new build of the docker image has been triggered:

https://build.geoserver.org/job/geoserver-release-publish/72/consoleFull

But it seems that the build history of the docker image builds is limited to the last 10 logs, so we cannot see the logs of the 2.24.0 build anymore:

https://build.geoserver.org/job/geoserver-release-docker/

Maybe something went wrong? I am not familiar with the build process, so I guess we need some help here, ping @Jody? Can the docker build for version 2.24.0 be re-triggered manually?

Best regards
Nils

I believe you can trigger that build at anytime; it is a build with parameters - so fill in the parameters.

The other release jobs trigger it with their just published version number.

Thanks for your response, but I don’t have any knowledge of the build process as I was never involved there.

Can you point me to the relevant lines of code on github to get a better understanding?

I also just created a fresh Jenkins user with ID: buehner

If possible, I’d be interested to get the needed rights to start the docker build process and solve the problem.

I have granted you some permissions; you can now help make releases :slightly_smiling_face:

I did also run the docker-release with version 2.24.0 here https://build.geoserver.org/view/release/job/geoserver-release-docker/456/ (You can check to see if it helps)

I am sorry to hear that Mr Pathak, finding work (or finding work with something you love) can be very hard.

One thing we do as a project steering committee members is write letters of reference for folks active in our community - to describe their experience and expertise helping others. I have reviewed your emails (dating back to 2018) just now, and did not find specific examples I could point to? If there is something I have missed, perhaps you are active on stack exchange, I can reconsider.

There is on OSGeo jobs email list that may also be of assistance: https://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/jobs

Take care

Jody Garnett

Thank you. It seems that the build is fine, but publishes as 2.24.x instead of 2.24.0

I will try to dig deeper later and find a fix for this.

I once again started the docker release with 2.24.0 (I guess just as Jody did two days ago), but for some reason the image has been published as 2.24.0 in the docker repo now. So the problem should be solved.

Dear all,

We are planning to update and wondered, if anybody might have already tested the new version with GeoFence? The GeoFence Compatibility Matrix (https://github.com/geoserver/geofence/wiki/GS-GF-Compatibility-matrix) seems to be quite old and does not mention the two latest GeoServer versions…

Thanks,

Samuli

Dear Samuli,

The 1.24-RC release candidate was made with a new copy of geofence 3.7-RC; but I do not see that detail in the release announcement.

https://osgeo-org.atlassian.net/browse/GEOS-11131

It is important to test functionality you care about when we ask for help testing release candidate. The call out in September was especially urgent do to the number of changes made.
