[Geoserver-users] Leader lines in SLD

I only started working with SLD recently, and a challenge emerged. Is it possible to create leader lines connecting labels with features of point type shapefile? I still have not found any examples, tips etc. SLD specification and GeoServer docs (labeling reference) does not contain any hints either.
Thanks in advance for answers.

Standard SLD does not have a notion of leader line, and GeoServer
extensions to SLD are not covering it
either.
It would be a welcomed addition though, if you are interested in pushing
this forward we have a guide you here:

One option would be to create a label layer using the Easy Custom Labeling plugin in QGIS which generates a new layer with the labels, points, leaders etc in it which you could style using SLD. QGIS might even export the style the plugin creates as SLD for you.

Although one thing to bear in mind - more complex SLD’s created with QGIS often don’t work in GeoServer without manual tweaking. Certainly worth trying though.

I created nice leader lines with Easy Custom Labeling plugin, but style has not been exported to SLD properly (it is known that QGIS has problem with this format). As is known, conversion of QML to SLD is impossible, and Geoserver does not support QML. I thought about extending SLD with (for example) piece of GML or something… But I feel it is not a viable way. Such SLD might not work at all, and defining each leader line for large point type shapefile will enlarge SLD file excessively.

There shouldn’t be any need to add GML to the SLD file as the leader lines are stored in the layer, so a simple line style should do it. Can you put the data layer somewhere I can see it and I might be able to play with it over the weekend
