[Geoserver-users] Raster-Vector-Conversion with OCR

Hi GIS-fans,
I run into a problem with some old map scans. While there are some
open source solutions for raster-vector conversion, I could not find
any, that included an OCR-functionality. Ideally it would not only
recognize the text but also the location (coordinates) of the text
within the map. Does anybody have an idea, if there is something out
there, that does not cost a fortune?

Hi Falk,
if there is one, please let us know,
not as I would need one myself, but from time to time someone is asking for such a software.
I've been messing around with scanned maps more or less the past 16 years. According to my experience you have to pay at least 1 - 2 k€ of such software and still the outcome is what it is.
Depending on the number and the quality of your scanned maps, maybe you should/could consider on making someone else to do the job for you and pay for that instead of buying your own software?

best of luck,
